Chinese stocks helped trigger global rout

Tokyo stocks tumbled Wednesday tracking falls in world stock markets the previous day. The key Nikkei index downed more than 500 points.

Chinese stocks helped trigger Tuesday's global rout. It rebounded Wednesday. New York stocks are moderately higher in early trading today.

I think this global falls are no problem. It is important that I keep my calm.

The Academy Awards

The seventy-ninth Academy Awards ceremony takes place Sunday in Los Angeles. I can't wait to see the ceremony.

I've seen only one movie which released last year. It was "The Devil Wears Prada." I want to see "Dreamgirls" next time.

Cyber crimes soar by 40 percent in Japan

The number of cyber crimes across Japan in 2006 increased by 40 percent from the year earlier, the National Police Agency said Thursday.

I use my computer for learning English, selling used books, shopping and everything else. I couldn't live without a PC anymore. I haven't been victimized by cyber crime yet. I have to take care of myself.

Insure steady income for survival

The Bank of Japan raised its benchmark interest rate to 0.5 percent on Wednesday. The U.S. dollar had slipped on Japanese media reports of an imminent rate raise. But it rebounded after the move.

I think Japanese economy is improving somewhat. It has provided the benefits to some companies and people. But the largest number of people feel insecure about their future. We will not rely on the government. We will have to take care of ourselves. It is really important that I'll insure steady income under any circumstances.

I feel fatigued

I got tired suddenly. I fell behind in my work today. But I'm OK. I'll work hard from now.

Citibank studying share listing on Tokyo Stock Exchange

Citigroup Inc. is studying the possibility of listing its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, a move that may make it easier for the America's biggest bank to expand in the world's second-largest economy.

I think few companies are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The Tokyo Stock Exchange should make itself attractive to foreign businesses. Otherwise Japanese economy will go into a decline.

The Ghan

I watched "Quiz: World Mysteries" on TV. Today's theme was about the Ghan, the train that links the Australian cities of Adelaide to Darwin in just three days. En route, the train makes a number of lengthy stops. And passengers can take excursions to Uluru for example. I think the Ghan is fascinating. I hope to travel by the Ghan.

English-language school NOVA searched

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government have conducted on-the-spot inspections at major English-language school NOVA. NOVA have been complained by ex-students. They complained that they hadn't had their tuition fees returned after canceling their contracts.

I think in general English-language schools in Japan are too expensive. Because there are few teachers who have skills of teaching English.

After all I have to study English by myself to master it. I think the best way is Extensive Reading. So I have done it since last February. I feel like I'm improving. I'll learn it more.

SECRET SANTA

I watched TV program about a story of Secret Santa, Larry Stewart this evening. I was really impressed.

He was a millionaire who became known as Secret Santa for his habit of roaming the streets each December and anonymously handing money to people. He spent 26 years giving a total $1.3 million. He died January 13, 2007 at the age of 58.

He was given a single act of kindness by Ted Horn, the owner of the restaurant when he was out of job with no money in his pockets. And he was succeed in business. I was most impressed about it.

I hope to become the man who give kindness acts to people one day.

Dollar lower as yen bounces

The dollar is lower on Tuesday as the yen rebounds on hopes that the Bank of Japan will hike rates next week.

The Bank of Japan may raise the interest. But It'll have little impact on the market, I think.

I hope to make a sizable sum of money as soon as possible. So I can run my business and invest in the market. I'll work hard.

Toyota builds new factory in India by 2010

Toyota Motor Corp. plans to construct a small-car assembly plant in southern India by 2010 for an estimated 40-50 billion yen, its second Indian manufacturing facility, The Nikkei reported on Monday.

I think India is one of countries where many business opportunities are available in business. Populous country has an advantage in economic potential. Japanese population started to decrease. And Japanese politics seems less than reputable. I wonder what will become of Japan.

Gap-widening society

The gap-widening society is becoming a serious problem in Japan. Some says middle class will be downfall to the lower class. And the gap will be wider. Lower class will never climb up middle and upper class.

I don't think the gap-widening society is bad. I think there are good gap-widening society and bad one. Good one is people will be climb up with effort and ability. I hope Japan and the world will become the society of opportunity.

I'll get results at any cost.

Everything comes to those who wait

There is a common saying in Japan.
Kahowa nete mate.
It means sleep and wait for good luck. In other words, good things come to those who wait. All I need is to do what I have to do with hope.

Job interview

I went to the home delivery company for a job interview. I'll have the home delivery sorting task in the night. I think I want to have free midday hours. So I choose the job in the night. I wonder what I'll do in the midday.

Sharapova retired from the tournament

Maria Sharapova competed against Ana Ivanovic at the semi final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Saturday. Sharapova retired in the second set of the match. Because she hurt her left thigh. I think she was exhausted after the Australian Open. I hope she will recover from leg injury as soon as possible.

The final will be Ana Ivanovic versus Martina Hingis on Sunday. It will be an exciting game.

SETSUBUN

In Japan, the traditional end of winter falls on February 3rd, and is known as Setsubun. On this day, people throw beans while shouting "Demons out! Fortune in!"

I went to Osu Kannon Temple for seeing Setsubun. The temple was packed with worshippers. I hope to throw beans next year.

Sharapova reaches semi-final

Maria Sharapova defeated Ai Sugiyama at the quarter final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Friday.

Sugiyama almost made it. Sharapova seems to be out of condition, I think. Tomorrow I'll watch the match on TV. It's nice to see Sharapova's performance.

Sharapova plays in Japan

Maria Sharapova defeated Italy's Francesca Schiavone at the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Thursday.

She will meet Japanese star Ai Sugiyama at the quarter final on Friday. I cheer them both. But I hope Sharapova will win the tournament. I can't wait to watch her play on TV on Saturday and Sunday.
